In light of the mounting concern regarding the reemergence of diseases that pose a threat to public health in the Region of the Americas, the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK), a collaborating center of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), is pleased to announce the organization of the II International Course on Integrated Vector Control. This esteemed educational program is scheduled to take place from August 18 to 22, 2025, at the facilities of our institute.
According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the region saw over 3 million cases of dengue in 2023, marking a 30% increase in endemic areas. In addition to this, outbreaks of Oropouche occurred in 2024 in regions outside the Amazon area, as well as recent outbreaks of yellow fever, leishmaniasis and other vector-borne diseases linked to urbanization, climate change and human mobility.
The course is designed to enhance the technical competencies of health professionals, epidemiologists, and managers of vector control programs in the region. The presentation will address a range of key topics relevant to integrated control, including chemical control, innovative surveillance and control strategies, monitoring of insecticide resistance, and community participation. The meeting will facilitate the exchange of experiences tailored to diverse contexts.
