Impacts of the III Caribbean Conference on Sickle Cell Disease.

Sessions and presentations of high interest in the field of sickle cell disease (SCD) will be part of the program of this Conference, not only for the Caribbean researchers but to everyone caring for developing the utmost in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of this hereditary haematological disease.  Among others we will have sessions, symposia or specific presentations on:

–      CAREST:  A Caribbean experience and perspectives.

–      International collaboration and global issues.

–      Haiti:  international cooperation

–      Cuban comprehensive care program.

–      Thirty six years of experience in the comprehensive care of SCD at the Institute of Hematology and Immunology, Cuba.  Psychosocial attention.  SCD and pregnancy.

–      Neonatal screening programs in various countries.

–      New approaches to SCD pathophysiology

–      Abnormal cell adhesion and cell-cell interaction:  molecular trgets.

–      Hematopoietic cell transplantation

–      Blood banking; transfusion management and iron overload.

–      Complications and hemorheological parameters

–      Microparticles production

–      Hydroxiurea

–      Pain management

–      Nutritional trials

–      Social aspects of the global management

–      Hospital challenges and opportunities in the treatment of children and adults.

Papers of particular interest will also be exhibited in posters for discussion of the attendants in the spaces indicated for this purpose.

Due to the particular characteristics of the Conference among the events of the Congress, the attendants will have access to Spanish-English-Spanish simultaneous translation.
